Manja?

I am not spoilt; I think most of my friends will agree on me when I say this. Being brought up as the eldest sibling in the family, I was taught to be independent and to rely on myself to get the things I want.

Obviously being the first born, there’s nobody older than you to help when you’re in need of it and there’s nobody to teach you anything which you don’t understand. Well, of course there’s always asking your parents but they’re busy too, you can’t bother them all day like you can with your older siblings. Right? I’m not sure; I never tried because I don’t have one. This is a mere observation from my sister constantly bothering me.

But still, believe it or not I am spoilt one particular aspect. Does anybody want to take a guess?

If you guessed food, you’re absolutely, spot on correct!

I am very (not a bit) spoilt when it comes to food. Growing up in a family of awesome cooks (my mom & maternal aunts) and also in a town of delicious food, it’s hard not to be fussy about the food I eat.

Here in my campus town, the food here is, as I like to say nowadays, “Ah Mai Gawd”. I am being the very flexible (chin chai) person that I am with the food that I eat here. With obvious reasons (coughcertainkiamsiapfriendscough), I practically kissed proper food (western food) goodbye throughout my stay here (well duh, western food is obviously more expensive). I think I'm a person that prefers/enjoys western food more than Chinese food at times. I clean the plate very well if it's western food in restaurants.

Secret Recipe has been opened for almost 3 months now and I still have not stepped in it yet (what is this man! I miss my Chicken Cordon Bleu!!)!!!

When it comes to food, I prefer to eat better food and pay more. After all, satisfaction is the key to enjoying ones meal! (cheh wa, philosopher *cheoreom). Why be miserable and eat something which only brings me little satisfaction when I can eat happily by paying slightly more? After all, with the way I’m currently spending, eating good food should be no problem since there’s nothing to shop here and I don’t buy things that often.

I’m obviously writing this after a not-very-nice dinner, but I have nobody to blame for that. After all, I ordered that dish myself and it was a pathetic excuse of a plate of char kuey tiow I have ever seen and tasted.

Hahahah!!!

*cheoreom: Korean for ‘like’

Eg: babo cheorom = like a fool (babo=fool/idiot, Korean equivalent to Japanese’s baka)
