I learnt a lot from watching Disney’s Classics growing up as a kid. For one thing, I learnt that the good guys always win and if you’re a bad guy, you always lose no matter how ingenious your plans are. That’s somehow where I get my basics for my own set of life principles.
The Classics is where I grew up, literally. I was a kid who grew up believing that one day, I will find my prince charming and have my own happily ever after. When I was young, I believed in fairy tales, that there really was a place called Neverland and apples were poisoned by evil witches. I believed in mermaids and all fishes were called Flounder. I wished to have my own genie, to grant my wishes and to turn me into a tough and smart kid like Mulan who went to war.
Movies usually come with their own OSTs, and when I was younger, I didn’t know what their titles were or who sang them. I only had two cassettes, a compilation of all the soundtracks from the Classics. Yet, those cassettes weren’t complete. There were many other songs that I loved that weren’t in them. Songs I yearned to listen to were only assessable through the melodies stored in my memory.
I lost count the number of times I’ve repeated them when I was young. I could memorise what the characters were going to say and do. I could recite the lines like nobody’s business when I was a kid, and mind you I can still do it now. I watched The Little Mermaid and The Lion King these past few days and the dialogues are still fresh in my mind.
That was how I grew up. How about you guys? ^_^ It’s fun to reminisce once in a while. Brings back many sweet memories.
